OK, we’ve finally made a decision on the next single release.  It will be a song titled “Shagland” and the release date is scheduled for February 1, 2010.

We have been in the studio recently working on our next album and completed 4 songs (that doesn’t necessarily mean all 4 will make the album, we’ll probably record 15 or 16 songs and narrow that down to what we consider the best 10 or 12). 

“Shagland” is a soulful little tune that we hope catches favor with our beach music audience.  We recorded it in Nashville at Sound Stage Studios.  As far as production, I tried to build the song, starting out very simply and introducing more instrumentation as the song developed.  As on our first album “Let My Peoples Dance”, I enlisted the help of Wayne Jackson, one of the founding members of the Memphis Horns, to write the horn arrangements as well as perform along with the Cornhole Prophets’ horn section.  The sax solos are by bandmember Jonas Shultz.  I love his solo on “Shagland” where he takes off with a gritty soulful sound, winding down with a soft intimate touch going into the breakdown.

Primary background vocals are by our lead guitarist, Sam Hankins, along with the very talented Jane Rhodes.  The American interpretation of “take me down to shagland” might mean let’s hit the dance floor and “shag dance”.  The British interpretation might go in a whole different direction?  We’ll leave that up to your imagination.

Anyway, we’re very pleased with “Shagland” and the other songs we recorded and will continue working toward completing the album. Rev. Bubba

The band is taking a few weeks off to spend time with family and friends and we’ll pick up our normal schedule the second week of January.  We just returned from Nashville where we’ve begun work on our next album.  If things go our way, we may be releasing a few early singles from the album in February (although the album will probably not be complete until summer of 2010).

Hey y’all,

A couple of good things have been going on.  First, our current single “That’s What You Do” reached #2 this week on Cashbox Magazine’s beach music singles charts.  We owe a lot to John Hook and the Endless Summer Network which was the very first syndicated radio show to jump on the record! And we owe our incredible fans a lot for requesting it so often.

Secondly, we’ve begun work on our next album.  We were in Nashville at Sound Stage Studios with engineer Jim Cooley tracking and Billy Decker mixing.  On our last album, we recorded the entire record over a period of 3 weeks.  On this new album, tentatively titled “Work Release Program”, we’re going to take a little more time and record it over the next 4 or 5 months.  Just don’t want to rush it and we want to make sure we have great material to record.

I can say, I’m very pleased with the way the first 3 songs turned out.  Also, while we were there, our good friends “The Fabulous Shades” were in town and we had the chance to work with them in the studio.  Well, the word “work” may not be quite correct.  It was more like a party and we were also able to record some music.  Y’all be cool, and like the farmer said to the tater, I’ll check you now and dig you later!  Rev. OK, I’m going to pull for my Auburn Tigers, but in the ‘real world’, I think Alabama just has too much talent for us to handle.  I don’t think Alabama has to even put the ball in the air once because their ground game can bulldoze their way down field.

Sure, we’ve all heard “throw the records out” when it comes to the Iron Bowl because of the fierce rivalry, and I’ve seen it happen before.  However, Auburn’s effectiveness will require two things 1) Chris Todd’s best game, and 2) Antonio Coleman’s best game.   If Auburn is able to score, I’m betting on defensive scores(fumbles or interceptions) or possibly a kickoff or punt return score.

In our favor, we’ve had a week off to prepare and heal, it’s a home game, Alabama has a short week, and Bama has to have been thinking ahead toward Florida in the SEC championship game.  I hope I’m wrong, and have been many times, but the nod goes to Bama.  Wouldn’t it be fun to see Florida lose to Florida State and Bama loss to Auburn in the same week!!!!!!!!!  Still, I’ll be there decked out in Orange and Blue and rooting for my home team hoping for a miracle.  Rev. It’s taken me two days to recover from 4 days of partying in N. Myrtle Beach SC for the 2009 Cammy Awards.  No, we didn’t win.  If we don’t win something next year, we’re going to change our name to Susan Lucci & the Cornhole Prophets!

You know I live in Alabama and don’t always hear the latest Beach Music coming out of the Carolinas and there have been some Carolina hits in the past that I’m just now hearing for the first time.  But each time I go, I always find something new that knocks me out.

This was the first time I’ve ever heard “My Big Sister’s Radio” by Mighty Mike Schermer and how easily the shaggers at Fat Harold’s could dance to it.  I think blues artist Tommy Castro has a cover of the song on his current album.

The other song that really impressed me came from Jerry Shooter with “Boardwalk Angel”.  I was walking down Main Street  and heard it coming from the outdoor speakers in front of Duck’s, and couldn’t get it out of my mind for the next three nights.

The song’s from the soundtrack of Eddie & the Cruisers, performed by the Beaver Brown Band and I think it was written by lead singer John Caferty.  But, there was a version released later by Billy Joe Royal, which was also great.  However, Jerry Shooter’s is my favorite version and it fit the beach and shag crowd perfectly.  Rev. I run out of things to blog about, but our band’s publicist tells me it’s important (plus Bob-o tells me that’s how he keeps up with the band) so here we go.

I’m heading to North Myrtle Beach this weekend for the Cammy Award show since our album was nominated for Group Album of the Year.  Considering the great talent we’re up against, there’s very little chance of winning, but we’re just happy to be included.  The band couldn’t go with me this trip, I couldn’t get them out on work release in time.  The warden didn’t think that partying 3 days in Myrtle Beach was work!  How stupid is that?  I’m here to testify that drinking beer, going from bar to bar, staying up til the wee hours, jumping on stage with the other bands, kissing every DJ’s butt in sight, eating as many Carolina Slaw dogs and as much Calabash Seafood as possible, and shagging with every fat girl around is hard work!

Our latest single “That’s What You Do”  reached #4 this week on Cashbox Magazine’s Beach Music Singles Chart and we’re thrilled.  We’ll be going into the studio in December so I’ve been spending time on my songwriting chores.  It’s funny, because I’ll write a song that I think is great, we go into the studio, and the song winds up a stinker.  Then, I’ll have a song that I think is just “OK” and it winds up being a hit.  Go figure?

I received the notice instructing me to appear at the Courthouse for Jury Duty and of course I went.  About 80 people were in the Jury Assembly room and we were told they would begin a process of elimination to narrow the group down to 12 jurors and 2 alternates.

Some folks were excused because of medical conditions, religious convictions, and a bushel full of other reasons.  I asked the person in charge if she was familiar with my “celebrity” status as Rev. Bubba D. Liverance and mentioned she might want to excuse me as well.  She asked if I was familiar with the term “contempt of court”?

Of course I was selected as one of the 12 jurors. The Judge, during his instructions, informed us this was a “murder” trial.  I started thinking about OJ and how long that trial lasted.  We have concerts and shows lined up and I started wondering if the promoters and club owners would think I was lying if we had to call and cancel.

Then we were told about our juror pay.  Here in Alabama we would receive the whopping compensation of $10 per day and 5 Cents  for each mile we had to drive to the court-house.  For me it was a 5 mile trip which would shoot that paycheck up by a quarter each way.  After the compensation explanation, we were told the State was nearly broke and the State would appreciate any of us that would waive our pay.  In an effort to help the State, I waived goodbye to my juror pay.

This was a very serious case, so I’m not going into any detail, however I will tell you about the deliberations.  At first it was  “lovey dovey” and very congenial.  Each juror shared their name, occupation, and little about their background.  Then things started heating up.  I had to break up two fights and almost got my ass kicked by a 69-year-old fat lady that sounded like the devil voices in ”The Exorcist”.  She scared the hell out of me!  This was all in the first hour of deliberations and was going downhill from there.

After a couple of days we did come up with what I believe was the correct verdict of “Not Guilty”.  Folks, I’ve travelled around the world, lived a “rock ‘n roll” lifestyle, and had more fun than a man should be allowed.  I’d still have to rate my jury duty as one of the most interesting and exciting episodes in my life.  I can highly recommend it!  Rev. Yeah, I’m a musician but I’m also a football fan and want to weigh in on the Auburn/Arkansas game last week and the upcoming Auburn/Kentucky game.

Hey Auburn……..  throw in 4 fumbles ,  add in 8 penalties, a heaping portion of un-enthusiasm, leave out the tackling, and toss in an interception just for fun, and you’ll have the perfect recipe to allow the boys from Wal-Mart land to open up a Sam’s Club sized pallet of “whup-ass” cans.  Boy did they!

Along with the embarrassment of underestimating Arkansas, we’ve also given Kentucky confidence for this week’s game in the Plains.  I know Auburn has a ton of talent and can be as physical as any team, but here’s a tip for you………”The team with the fewest mistakes usually wins”!  War Eagle, and use you heads!  Rev. What a surprise?  Our album “Let My Peoples Dance” has been nominated for “Best Group Album of the Year” by the Carolina Beach Music Academy for 2009.  I thought there might be a chance of being nominated for “Best New Artist”, “Cutest Tush for Lead Singer in Rock ‘n Soul Band”, or “Artist Most Likely to Kiss Butt of Radio Station DJ’s”.  But, “Album of the Year”…..WOW!

The Award Show will be at the Alabama Theatre in Myrtle Beach SC on Sunday November 15.  The Cornhole Prophets and I want to thank you all for voting  for us.  It’s a great feeling knowing people appreciate what we do!  Rev. Bubba D. Liverance

After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, New York scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion, that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed, a California archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet, and shortly after, a story in the LA Times read: “California archaeologists, finding traces of 200 year old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the New Yorkers”.

One week later, the Opelika-Auburn News, a local paper in eastern Alabama reported the following:  “After digging as deep as 30 feet in his pasture near Auburn, AL, Rev. Bubba D. Liverance, a self-taught archaeologist and life-long guitar picker, reported that he found absolutely nothing.  Bubba has therefore concluded that 300 years ago, Alabama had already gone wireless”
